FLY-TIPPERS have targeted a Wirral cemetery again - dumping piles of rubbish – including a toilet – near graves.

These pictures sent to Globe by reader Paul Lewis show the mess that has been discarded Town Lane cemetery, Bebington this week.

Also among the pile of household rubbish is a cuddly toy, a stair guard, upvc window panes, a broken bed, paint pots, mirrors and plastic bags.

Mr Lewis - who has lived in what was the former gravedigger's lodge for nine years - told the Globe this afternoon: "This rubbish will probably stay there for the next week before its moved by the council.

"I know fly tipping occurs everywhere, but you have to be a complete low life to dump this kind of waste in a cemetery, this scum have no respect for themselves let alone others.

"The waste was dumped last night, after 8.30pm as I went out for an hour and it wasn't there when I got back.

"The cemetery is coming up to its busiest time of the year when family and friends remember there loved ones.

"Sadly this is the first sight they will be greeted with.

"Would you want to be looking at dirty toilets and rubble when paying your respects?

"I want the council to come out and remove this and do something about those who have left it."

It's not the first time fly-tippers have left their calling card at the cemetery.

Last December, Globe readers Joan and Ron Broadbent visited were distressed to find walkways strewn with trash and household waste.

Also among the rubbish was an oven hob, drawers full of kitchen tiles, floor boards plastic bags and even a kitchen sink.

Mrs Broadbent - whose son, father and grandparents are buried at the cemetery – said at the time: "When you go to a cemetery all you want to do is lay flowers on your loved ones' graves. You don't expect to see a kitchen sink dumped nearby.

"I can't understand the mentality of some people. What's wrong them, why do they feel the need to leave all this mess in a cemetery?"

Cllr Phillip Brightmore, Wirral cabinet member for environment, told the Globe: "This is an appalling act of environmental crime and incredibly disrespectful to friends and relatives visiting the cemetery.

"This is not the first time fly-tipping like this has happened at this cemetery and it has to stop.

"Our enforcement officers have been out to investigate the site and have arranged for the rubbish to be removed at the earliest opportunity, on Friday morning.

"If anyone has any information they think could help us catch the perpetrator, please get in touch – I want to make it clear; Wirral Council will not tolerate environmental crime."
