A WIRRAL primary school has been rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted for the third time in succession.

Ofsted acknowledged the efforts of pupils, parents and staff at Gilbrook School in Woodchurch in overcoming a difficult period in the school's journey to offer pupils exceptional guidance and support, which leads to "exceptional improvements seen in pupils' behaviour and their outstanding progress across the curriculum."

In their report, inspectors praised improvements in attendance, rising rapidly towards rates of attendance in mainstream schools, are a result of: "tireless efforts to make sure that pupils feel safe and nurtured."

Head of school Kirsten Brown said: "I am so proud of all my staff, this is a testament to all the hard work they have put in over the past two years.

"I would also like to thank our pupils and parents, who help make Gilbrook the amazing school it is!"

The inspection team were impressed with the school's 'drive to keep up with national and international developments by taking part in research and developing innovative partnerships; contributing to the consistently strong teaching across the school and the high aspirations, which staff have for all pupils'.

They added: "All of the above underpins pupils' strong outcomes which are possible as a result of the innovative curriculum adopted by the school; pupils make very strong progress from their different starting points, are proud of their work and the progress they make".

Principal Steve Baker said: "The inspection outcome is a reflection of a massive team effort and proves that Gilbrook School is a very special place.

"I am particularly pleased that the inspection team recognised the importance of our federation with Kilgarth School and that this has resulted in us having a much wider, positive impact across the country."
