A WIRRAL charity for the blind and partially sighted has received a £990 donation.

The Wirral Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted was donated the cash from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

The charity, which is based on Ashville Road, Birkenhead, will now be able to buy new craft materials after being recommended by colleagues at the Society’s branch in Wallasey.

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.

Development officer for the charity Lynne Sedgwick said: “As a small local charity, we depend upon the support of our local community.

"We are extremely grateful to the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation for this kind donation and it was lovely to meet the team who came to visit our Resource Centre and our members.”

The society is the only voluntary organisation in the borough offering support to people with visual impairments and provides a wide range of services including braille classes, outreach advocacy, IT training and an audio book library.

Neil Gregory, manager of the Wallasey branch of Yorkshire Building Society, said: “We’re delighted the Charitable Foundation has been able to support the Wirral Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted -a charity that provides a life-line to many people in our community.

“As a mutual organisation we exist to serve our members and I know they would be as proud as we are to support such a worthwhile cause."
