A DECISION on plans to build 18 flats on the site of a former Presbyterian Church in Hoylake have been deferred until after a site visit has taken place.

If approved the LHG Projects' application would see the conversion, partial demolition and extension of the building in Alderley Road to create the flats.

It follows refusal of a previous application to demolish the church and build six houses.

During a meeting of Wirral's planning commitee, councillors voted in favour of a visit to the site of proposed development before any decision is made.

A petition of 65 signatures was submitted, along with 26 letters of objection and concerns from Conservative ward councillor Gerry Ellis.

Residents have raised concerns over parking and overdevelopment in the road.

Councillor Ellis said: "Alderley Road is one of the most congested roads in Hoylake, where parking spaces are already at a premium for residents.

"This plan includes no parking on site and so will only make life more difficult for the people who live in Alderley Road.

"I'm pleased the planning committee has agreed to visit the area first, before making a decision.

"Hopefully then, they will see the kind of problems residents face each day and refuse this application."
