FORGET making a witches cape from a bin bag and layering on the eyeliner...Halloween fancy dress fans have been reaching whole new spooky levels in recent years.

So much so that some make up artists in Wirral are now booked up two years in advance.

It's thought the trend for a more extravagant look for parties around October 31 started with the James Bond film Spectre.

Mexican tourism officials were inspired by parts of the 2015 film, which were filmed in Mexico City and featured 007 chasing a villain through a Day of the Dead celebration in the historical centre, and as a result Mexico City held its first Day of the Dead parade, complete with floats, giant skeleton marionettes and more than 1,000 actors, dancers and acrobats in costumes last year.

And this year with Festival of the Dead shows in Liverpool and Manchester this month there's no sign of the sugar skull craze slowing anytime soon.

We took a look at some of the frightful creations on offer in Wirral this Halloween.

How long you've been doing make up for: Im self taught and have been doing make up for 2/3 years now, I mainly learn from experimenting with different materials, to create different and exiting looks. My eventual career goal is to work on movie/tv sets as a prosthetic make up artist.

Your favourite look for Halloween: Anything that's gory, but still has a glam twist to it, like adding glitter or gems to any makeup look always makes the make up look more exciting. I still love the classical skeleton look, with harsh black tones with whites and greys for highlights, I think these look amazing at halloween time and especially at parties and in photos. Something that I like doing for Halloween, is taking a normal character from one of my favourite movies, and using make up to turn myself into this character, with a slight gory touch.

What you think the most popular look will be this Halloween: I think the most popular halloween look this year will be Pennywise the clown,  I've watched so many tutorials of this make up look and each one has been done differently and all look amazing, especially the glam looks, its amazing how exact some of these make up artists get the make up in comparison the the original pennywise. I love any type of clown look, especially the clown looks with the glitter striped neck, I love the way the glitter gives the look a twist and makes it look original.

What you think the most popular look will be this Halloween:

I have had requests for Harley Quinn again this year but I think clowns are always going to be most popular. Also, day of the dead Mexican style is popular, more popular for people who don't want to go too extreme.

My business is called little faces face paint

I'm a professional face painter not a make up artist

I've been face painting for just a little over 4 years and while Halloween is usually spent with my children and family and friends I do usually paint for them but this year I am booked to paint at little als urban farm for a 5 hour event which I am really looking forward to.

I think the main design people are looking for is the sugar skulls, I've had lots of requests for these for nights out.

I also do baby bump paintings, on top of the face paint.

How long have I been doing makeup- 6 years

Favourite look for Halloween- I absolutely love the harlequin look,  as you can get really creative and colourful but you can also hit both ends of the spectrum to suit everyone's style for Halloween! You can make it gory and creepy of you want but then you can also go the complete opposite and get out the Glitter and gems and create an eye catching glam look for the occasion

The most popular look- I think an all round popular look is the sugar skull which every one loves! However also this year I think we are going to be seeing alot of glam and mysterious fortune teller looks.
