A WIRRAL school celebrated the completion of its multi-million pound rebuild with a children’s party.

Bedford Drive Primary in Birkenhead was one of three Wirral schools that secured funding for redevelopment after the council submitted a bid to the Government's Priority Schools Building Programme in 2012.

The £5m rebuild began in summer 2015 and although the school moved into its new state-of-the art premises last September, work on the new playground was only completed this year.

The new-look school was formally opened by mayor Ann McLachlan.

The celebrations were also supported by Morgan Sindall, the contractors of the build, who provided a spectacular cake in the shape of the new premises.

This new area boasts an outdoor teaching area, pond and Forest School.

Headteacher Rebecca Bridges told the Globe: “We are really excited to be working in such a fabulous new school.

"The new premises has enabled our teaching and learning to be even more inspirational and exciting, in addition to having such great surroundings in which to continue to build on our recent 'Good' Ofsted rating".

The first Wirral school to be built after the Second World War, Bedford Drive opened in the 1950s to accommodate the Baby Boom following World War 2, and has therefore been a pillar of the local community for many years.

Past pupils and local residents are invited on a tour of the new premises during an open evening at the school on November 15.

Taking place from 5pm–7pm, the event will be ticket-only. Tickets will be available from the school office in the coming weeks.

They will also welcome any prospective parents to come along to visit the school - if they are unable to make the above date, they can contact the School Office to arrange an informal visit.
