A WIRRAL mum-of-two who was diagnosed with terminal cancer raised £5,100 from a coffee morning to give something back to Macmillan nurses.

Ruth Johnson, 40, from West Kirby was diagnosed with cancer in October 2015 and given 12 months to live.

Two years on, Ruth was determined to beat her last year's Macmillan coffee morning target of £3,410.

From this year's Ridger Macmillan morning, Ruth raised £3,600 and managed to secure £2,500 in match funding from Santander.

Before her coffee morning Ruth told the Globe: "We had a coffee morning last year and raised around £3,410.

"I've had a lot of support from friends and family over the last two years.

"This could be the last one I organise, I'm living on borrowed time now.

"I'd like to thank everyone at the Ridger for helping me again this year.

"The staff will also be working for nothing and tea and coffee has been donated for free."

Fundraising manager for Liverpool, Wirral and the Isle of Man Nicole McIlveen said: "This is the fourth year that Ruth and her family and friends have organised a Macmillan Coffee Morning and she has raised thousands of pounds which will be used to fund Macmillan’s support services such as information and support centres across the region and our Community Support Volunteer programmes.

"We’re so thankful to this inspirational lady who despite everything she’s going through at the minute was determined that this coffee morning went ahead."
