SHOPPERS will get a chance to take charge of their health by checking their blood pressure at Pyramids Shopping Centre.

From 10am until 4pm on Friday, October 13 visitors will be able to receive free checks from the NHS Health Check team who will be stationed outside Next and Boots Opticians.

The team will also offer help and advice for leading a healthier lifestyle as part of last month's national campaign 'Know Your Numbers' by Blood Pressure UK.

Pyramids Centre Director, Derek Millar said: "We’re pleased to support this event and help raise awareness of high blood pressure.

"I’d urge all our visitors to take advantage of having a free check as it takes less than a minute to perform, so if people are in the area it’d be a great idea to pop down for peace of mind at the very least.”

NHS Health Check and Public Health nurse for Wirral Council Sharon Fadden said: “An estimated 34,000 people in Wirral have high blood pressure but don't know it.

“By knowing your numbers and making small changes to your lifestyle, such as eating less salt, more fruit and vegetables, taking more exercise and keeping to a good weight, you will stay healthier and reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack or heart failure.”
