A pensioner pooch is looking for a retirement home to relax in.

Smokey, a 13-year-old terrier is looking for a family who can give him constant company and a garden perfect to explore.

A spokesman for Dogs Trust Merseyside said: "Smokey is an older gent now but still very active.

"He doesn’t like to leave the rehoming centre’s play area until he has sniffed every corner, leaf and blade of grass.

"Unfortunately he has been in and out of the centre in the last year through no fault of his own and would love to find somewhere to settle.

"His previous family found him to be impeccably behaved and he has been much loved.

"Smokey has a lovely nature and enjoys a walk with other quiet dogs, though as an older boy he does like his own space too.

"He is used to having almost constant company so he won't want to be left alone for too long and he’d like to be the only dog in the home.

"He would love a patient and caring owner to give him a retirement home where he can rest his paws – after he has had a good chance to explore the great outdoors."
