A sign language choir is expressing their thanks to the people who helped them raise more than £1,000.

The Dee-sign British Sign Language Choir performed on Saturday, September 16 at The Pyramids Shopping Centre in Birkenhead.

On the day £1,065 was raised from kind-hearted shoppers who donated cash into buckets for deaf and hard of hearing communities.

Centre director at the Pyramids Derek Millar said: "The choir were sensational and had everyone of all ages singing, dancing and having a great time.

"What took many onlookers by surprise was how incredibly moving it was; using british sign language to interpret the songs is inspiring.

"I am thrilled that so much money has been raised for this fantastic charity - the generosity of the people of Birkenhead always humbles me.

"Anne and her team are doing a phenomenal job in raising the profile of Deaf Awareness across the North West and what a wonderful way to bring the community together through a shared love of music.

"We're sure many people, including myself - would love to see Dee-Sign Choir at the Pyramids again.

"It was a brilliant day and one we'll remember for a long time."

Anne Hesketh, director of the choir said this money will make such a difference to people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

She said: "We always love coming to Birkenhead, the management and security staff are so helpful, and people are so friendly and generous.

"So much lovely feedback was given by those watching and listening, the toddlers danced to the music and one member of the public kissed me and said she was moved to tears when we performed 'You Raise Me Up'.

"A lady in a wheelchair, sorry I did not get her name, was signing along while watching us and she was very good indeed and even young boys dug deep into their pockets to donate to us.

"We have even secured a booking in Wallasey from one member of the audience.

"Birkenhead we definitely salute you."
