A new project has been launched to help people across Wirral choose a healthier takeaway.

'Eat Well Wirral' has been designed to offer families the chance to find a healthy takeaway in their area.

An online map on Wirral Council's website lists takeaways and fast food outlets across the borough that have changed the way they prepare and cook food, giving customers the chance to take away a healthier meal.

Changes include using lower fat options, healthier cooking fats and offering fresh fruit as an alternative to biscuits, crisps and other snacks.

Originally launched in 2015, the Eat Well Wirral scheme has been a success, providing financial support, incentives and advice to a wide range of businesses across the borough.

More than 100 businesses are now signed up to the scheme.

Wirral’s cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Health, Cllr Chris Jones, said: “We know people enjoy a takeaway now and again and Eat Well Wirral helps people make healthier choices.

“Our award holders provide a genuine alternative to customers who use takeaways, and we’d like to hear from other businesses who would like to get involved."
