ROUGHNECK Riot are to play their last hometown gig of the year on Saturday, September 30, before working on their fourth album.

The folk punk six-piece, whose music features mandolin, banjo and accordion, will be playing at Old Town House in Buttermarket Street.

Roughneck Riot, whose first gig was at the former Highwayman pub in Manchester Road in 2005, have been a favourite in the town for many years and have previously headlined Warrington Music Festival.

But they have also been warmly welcomed by the punk scene in Europe, particularly in Germany where they tour frequently.

Recent gigs have included Boomtown festival in Winchester and they recently did a short tour of France.

The band were influenced by the likes of Bad Religion, NOFX and The Levellers and write songs about social and political issues.

Roughneck Riot, who are ‘liked’ on Facebook by almost 11,500 fans, are working on their fourth album with Manchester DIY label TNS Records.

It is the follow up to 2014’s Out of Anger.

The band’s gig at Old Town House on Saturday, September 30, will see them share a stage with five support bands including Jen Burgess and Cait Costello’s folk punk duo Hello Mabel.

Jen and Cait run the Old Town House which reopened earlier this year with an emphasis on original live music and vegan junk food.

Cait, a former Lymm High School student, is also Roughneck Riot’s banjo player.

Doors open for the gig, which raises money for Cheshire Hunt Saboteurs, at 6pm.

Entry is free but with a £5 suggested donation.
