MORETON-based author Edward Denmark reflects on the laughs and tragedies of his childhood in a new book.

We spoke in whispers - which is due to be released next week - charts the Falkland War veteran's experiences of growing up in the 1960s and 70s.

The book's press literature reads: "With such a large family life was desperate from the start.

"However desperation was to become the least of his young worries when alcohol addiction took control of his mother's life.

"Remarkably he still found moments to laugh and be happy.

"It really is a journey of contrasts from utter sorrow and sadness to

hilarious escapades."

On his new book Edward said: "On the whole, this book shows that despite hardship, determination will always get you through."

The book follows the success of his first book Not for queen and country, which tells of his time in the army during the Falklands war.
