WIRRAL schoolgirl Lucy Moroney has completed her first alternative treatment session in Mexico for an inoperable brain tumour.

Nine-year-old Lucy from Heswall was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) a terminal and inoperable brain tumour.

Lucy’s family set up a Justgiving page to desperately raise £300,000 to help her receive alternative treatment called Intra-arterial chemotherapy in Mexico for her grade 4 tumour.

The page has now raised more than £166,000 for Lucy and a recent update from her aunt Paula Newman revealed she has begun her treatment.

Paula said: “Lucy had her first intra-arterial chemotherapy treatment on Thursday – since then she has been feeling a bit rotten.

“Sickness and severe headaches, although no fun for Lucy are all to be expected following treatment, however we’re hoping to see some improvement over the next few days.

“Lucy called me on Face Time last night and we had a little chat.

“She said she was starting to feel a bit better – of course, she was smiling and giggling as per usual.”

Five-and-a-half years ago, Lucy’s mum Nicola tragically died from a sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 33.

Nicola was pregnant at the time with Lucy’s little sister Ruby, who was born by c-section at 24 weeks gestation during Nicola’s attempted resuscitation.

Ruby lived for 14 hours but died in her dad’s arms on January 25, 2012.

So far £166,983 has been raised for Lucy, but she desperately needs to find £133,017 to be able to afford the full-course of treatment.

Paula added: “The fundraising over in the North West has been incredible.

“What a massive effort from Team Pineapple – Thank you all.

“We do need to keep Lucy on this treatment now she has started it.”

On Thursday, August 31 from 6.30pm ‘The big Juicy Pineapple Party’ will be held at Anfield, the home of Liverpool Football Club to raise cash for Lucy.

The event will have food, live music, entertainment, games and prizes such as a holiday for four to Ibiza, Livepool FC Hospitality Lounge Tickets, signed football shirts and spa days.

Paula has also started the #DIPGGarlicChallenge on Facebook were people post a video of themselves eating a clove of garlic and tagging two friends to do the same while sharing the link for Lucy – if you don’t complete the challenge, you need to donate £10 to Lucy’s fund.
