AN ANNUAL black tie fundraiser is back this bank holiday weekend to host its first ever family fun day to raise money for life-saving cancer research.

Organised by Blackjack and Bow Tie fundraising committee the New Brighton Cricket and Bowling Club will host a range of family friendly activities on Monday, August 28 to secure funds for North West Cancer Research.

Admission is free and the event will run from 1pm to 6pm.

Children and adults alike can take part in laser tag, assault courses, beat the goalie, go carting and a soft play area.

For those who like a slower pace there will be the chance to browse through a selection of stalls selling arts and crafts, as well as food and drink items.

All money raised on the day will be donated to North West Cancer Research, a charity which currently funds around £8.1 million of cancer research at the University of Liverpool.

Annie Henderson, of Blackjack and Bow Tie fundraising committee said: “Our events have always been a huge success helping raise more than £60,000 for North West Cancer Research over the last 11 years.

“This year we wanted to do something a little different than a black tie event, so we came up with the family fun day.

"It’s something everyone can enjoy – whether you’re one or 100 and we’ve some great activities planned.

“It’s been a real buzz organising it as well. A wide circle if friends has been involved, generously offering prizes and support and we couldn’t have organised it without them.

"We would like to say a special thanks to the cricket club who have offered the club and ground to us free of charge.

“It will be a great day and hopefully the weather will be on our side – we look forward to seeing as many people as possible there!”

Fundraising manager Bobby Magee said: “We have seen the Blackjack and Bow Tie committee hold some great events over the past decade.

"We wish them the best of luck with their family fun day and would like to thank them for their continued support for the charity.”
