I AM researching a young Isle of Man trainee RAF pilot sadly killed when his Spitfire crashed in North Wales in 1942.
RAF Sergeant Pilot George Douglas JONES from Castletown, Isle of Man despite escaping from his stricken Spitfire on August 5, 1942, sadly succumbed to his injuries in Wrexham hospital some six days later, his father having flown to his bedside from his home in the Isle of Man.
George Douglas Jones died seven weeks before his 21st birthday.
George Douglas Jones, known as Douglas, was an only child and though he was born on the Isle of Man his parents were originally from the Merseyside area.
His father was George Herbert Jones, born in the Liverpool Registration District in 1892 and in 1916 living at Richmond Street, New Brighton.
Douglas Jones' mother was Elizabeth Jones nee Niblock, born in the Birkenhead District in 1896 and in 1911 living with her parents at 115 Wallasey Village, Cheshire.
Despite invaluable help provided by members of the clergy and aviation experts on the Isle of Man I have been unable to find any living relatives of Douglas Jones.
I would very much like contact with any the Jones or Niblock family of George Douglas Jones some of whom I believe were living at Bromborough in 1943.
