Two workmen were taken to hospital after being electrocuted when they struck a live wire in Bromborough.
Emergency services were called to Dock Road South at around 1.40pm today (Thursday) after reports that two men had been injured after a pneumatic drill struck a power cable.
Both men were taken to hospital for burn injuries - one of them is believed to have been airlifted to Whiston.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that emergency services have been in attendance at Dock Road South in Bromborough after a serious incident this afternoon (Thursday).
"Police, ambulance and fire service attended a two men were taken to hospital with burn injuries which are being assessed.
"A road closure is in place at the junction of Old Courthouse Road/Dock Road South/Thermal Road while enquiries are carried out."
An investigation into the circumstances of the incident will be led by the Health and Safety Executive, supported by the emergency services.
