THE Globe has united with campaigning MP Frank Field to help prevent Birkenhead children going hungry in the school summer holidays .
The Feeding Birkenhead programme – covering Rock Ferry, Tranmere, Prenton, and the North End – aims to ensure children who might otherwise go without food and activities during the holidays are able to eat a decent meal each day and take part in games, arts, crafts, and sports.
Mr Field, who set up the campaign, said: "We now know that children whose diets deteriorate in the holidays return to school up to a month intellectually behind their more fortunate peers.
"Feeding Birkenhead has yet again placed itself on the frontline of the fightback against this injustice, by ensuring as many local families as possible who need help can access it.
"It is a huge credit to the community and voluntary groups who put themselves forward for this effort.
"I am delighted the Globe is once again giving its full support to this campaign."
