MORE than 300 people are signed up and ready to take part in next weekend's Hoylake 10k charity coastal fun run - and there is still time to join them.

Taking place on Sunday, September 24, the Globe-backed event raises funds for a special needs club in the town.

It starts outside Hoylake Community Centre in Hoyle Road at 11am.

Urging our readers to join the 343 already registered to take part, race secretary Carla Williams told the Globe: "Any runners who are thinking of running but haven't registered yet, please get your entries in.

"If you weren't thinking of running, why not do so.

"We need your support, more this year than in previous years.

"We've had so many enquiries from people, but that outweighs those registering.

"I think the reason for that is because there are so many runs taking place at around the time of the 10k.

"For instance, there are five massive races taking place on the same day as the 10k.

"However, last September we had a surge of people signing up and on the day, 140 people turned up and did so.

"So, there is every chance numbers could swell, as they have in previous years."

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Wednesday Special Needs Club's Soft Play Sensory Resource, which is based at the centre.

It is maintained and funded by volunteers and the run is the club's major fundraiser.

Last year, 520 people took part in the run, raising £8,800 for the centre.

First man across the finishing line last year was Joseph Boden from Wallasey AC in 36 minutes and five seconds.

First woman across the line was Jayne Joy in 42 minutes and 52 seconds.

Entry is £10, with runners receiving a commemorative t-shirt and certificate.
