CHILDREN will have a chance to learn all about owls during a special event taking place at Royden Park in Frankby next Wednesday morning.

Organised by Rockcliff Raptors, owner of a private collection of birds of prey, the event will be an informal educational talk about these magnificent creatures followed by some fun activities that are designed to enhance your knowledge of the flighty favourites.

Taking place from 10am-midday, next week's event is suitable for children aged five and above.

All must be accompanied by an adult.

Admission is £2.50 per person and booking is essential.

Crafty kids
A PIRATE-themed craft event for children will be held at three Wirral venues next week.

At the 'Pirates' event you can make and decorate a hat, a hook, a parrot, a treasure chest complete with coins, and of course a treasure map. 

The sessions take place at Hoylake Parade Community Centre on Tuesday from 10.30am-11:30am, West Kirby United Reformed church on Wednesday from 10-11am and Heswall Hall on Thursday from 1.30-2.30pm.

Admission is £5 each for children aged two. For under twos it is £1 per craft activity. There is also baby area with a few toys and activities, which is free of charge.

OFF The Ground Theatre Company will stage its production of Around The World in 80 Days in Queens Park, Hoylake next Wednesday, August 2.

Adapted from Jules Verne's classic tale by Jim Foggin, it promises to be a great evening.

Charity funday

A FAMILY fun day in aid of Cancer Research UK will be held at the Floral Pavilion in new Brighton next week.

It takes place at the riverside venue on Friday, August 4 from 10.30am until 5pm.

Among attractions on the day will be face-painting, nail art, a bouncy castle, crafts, stalls, games and characters. 

Rock on

MIKE Byrne and the Sunrockers return to the stage at Heswall British Legion next Wednesday, August 2 with another night of Rock n Roll classics.

Their repertoire includes the hits of Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and many others.

Charity sale

A CHARITY table top sale will be held at in the hall at Christ Church in Oxton this Saturday from 1-4pm.

The hiring a table will be £10.

Island walk

GLOBE readers are invited on a walk to Hilbre Island this Monday from 10am-4pm.

This is a popular trip for families, with Cheshire Wildlife Trust. There will be a separate walk for adults without children in September.

The walk is ideal for children and families and will include a seaside scavenger hunt, rock pool dipping, bird and seal watching.

It costs £10 to take part and booking is essential.

RSPB talk

ISLANDS of Ice, Fire and Wind is the title of Jeremy Bradshaw’s illustrated talk to Wirral RSPB this Thursday, July 27.

Jeremy's presentation will be about the wonders of Iceland and Shetland, both in terms of their scenery and bird life.

Taking place at Kingsmead School Hall in Bertram Drive, Hoylake, the meeting runs from 8pm to 9.30 pm.

Film night

HOYLAKE Community Cinema will show classic war film Ice Cold in Alex this Friday, July 28.

Made in 1958 and directed by J. Lee Thompson, it is based on a series of articles written for the Saturday Evening Post, published in book form in 1957.

The film features John Mills, Sylvia Sims, Harry Andrews, Diane Clare and Anthony Quayle.

It will be shown at Hoylake Parade Community Centre in Hoyle Road, Hoylake. There will be a licensed bar and fresh food available.

Scything course

THERE's an introduction to scything at New Ferry Butterfly Park this Saturday.

The course will look at why grasslands are mown, setting up the scythe correctly and different types of blades available.

THE Claremount Roundabouts are holding a charity sandwich and cake lunch next month.

HOYLAKE'S annual beer festival will be held at Hoylake Parade Community Centre over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

It will feature live music from Reckless Elbow, Phil Chisnall, Los Amigos and The Morris Men plus hot and cold food served throughout the festival.

On Bank Holiday Monday there will be family fun day with craft stalls, face painting, a fairground.
