A FUNDRAISER has raised £2,200 for a Wirral dad who was seriously injured during the Manchester Arena attack in May.

Robby Potter has spent the last two months in Wythenshawe Hospital recovering from severe injuries caused by the shrapnel in the explosion after an Ariana Grande concert on May 22.

22 people were killed and 59 were injured during the attack at the Manchester Arena where Robby was waiting for his daughter Tegan.

The Old Parkonians decided they wanted to raise cash for Robby, a former rugby and cricket club member and his family during this horrific time on July 16.

The day featured a sixes cricket tournament at their ground in Oxton sponsored by the ECB Cricket Fest with other fundraising activities such as bouncy castles, barbecues, raffle prizes and an auction.

A total of 36 club members turned up for an afternoon of competitive inter-club cricket all paying £5 to play.

The teams were split into two teams comprising of mixture of first and second team league players including The Travellers Rest from Warrington, Oxton Parkonians rugby players, social members and the ladies’ team.

A spokesman for the fundraiser said: “On the run up to the event, the fundraising team were bowled over by the generosity from local independent businesses who donated such great raffle prizes for the cause.

“A special thank you goes to the the Courtyard, Stag Barbers and Home Brew all in Oxton Village as well as Salt & Chilli Thai restaurant in Prenton, Wirral Sports and Kanokphons Thai Massage Studio in Market Street Birkenhead.”

The fundraising total will be added to another upcoming fundraiser for Robby which will be held on Sunday, July 23, at the Irby Club for an afternoon of live music.
