AN open day will be held at Bidston Materials Recovery Facility in Birkenhead to showcase the technology they use to cope with Wirral’s rubbish.

On July 29 visitors will be able to see behind the scenes, take a tour of the facility and see how the machines sort paper from cardboard and glass bottles from tin cans.

There will also be activities for children to get involved in, refreshments and tips on how people can reduce, reuse and recycle.

Government targets introduced to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill each year means we have to recycle as much of our waste as possible.

The facility in Bidston dealt with 28,560 tonnes of Wirral’s kerbside recycling which was collected from grey bins from April 2016 to March 2017.

The open day will be held on Saturday, July 29 between 10am and 2pm at Veolia Bidston Materials Recovery Facility, Wallasey Bridge Road, Birkenhead, CH41 1EB.
