A WIRRAL primary school and boxing club are among community projects that have been presented with National Lottery funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

Across the North West 90 projects were awarded grants by the fund totalling more than £4.8 million. 

In Wirral six projects were collectively awarded their share of more than £56,000.

James Harcourt, England director at the Big Lottery Fund said: “We are proud to give National Lottery money to local projects that make a difference in their communities.

“Whether £500 or £500,000, our funding is used to run amazing projects led by local people.

“When you hear about projects like these you realise the incredible impact the money generated by National Lottery players has had on communities across England. It really is life changing. ”

Projects from Gilbrook Primary School, Hoylake Allotment Association and St Peter’s Catholic School were all awarded £10,000.

Other projects included a scheme for people suffering with dementia, a keep fit club and free courses in boxing.

The following projects that have been awarded:

  • Gilbrook Primary School Get Out and Play at Gilbrook £10,000

The funding will be used by a community special school to create an outdoor play and learning area. The project aims to provide a new place for children, particularly those with additional difficulties such as mental health issues or complex needs, to socialise and improve their wellbeing.

  • Hoylake Allotment Association Installation of composting toilet £10,000

The funding will be used by a voluntary organisation to install a new, wheelchair accessible composting toilet on an allotment. The project will allow the organisation to provide improved facilities, especially for people with disabilities and medical conditions.

  • Millfields Church of England (Controlled) Primary School Millfields Fit Club £9,980​

The funding will be used by a primary school to run an after-school health and fitness club for pupils aged five to eleven. The project aims to promote educational activities including healthy eating and nutrition in order to tackle an increase in obesity amongst pupils.

  • St Peter's Catholic Primary School Cohesive Communities - Building on Strengths £10,000​

The funding will be used by a primary school to run workshops designed to improve life chances, aspirations, mental health and bring the community together. The project aims to provide help and support to those suffering from mental health issues within the community.

  • Team Kilbride Team Kilbride Community Development Project £9,191.50

The funding will be used to run a programme of free courses incorporating boxing, nutrition and personal development over 24 weeks for young people identified as at risk of engaging in risky, anti-social or negative behaviours. The project aims to improve people’s health and divert them from negative behaviours.

  • The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust Dementia Day Clocks £7,150​

The funding will be used to purchase ‘dementia clocks’ for patients suffering from cancer and dementia. The project aims to provide an additional aid for people with dementia to allow them to manage their condition and maintain routine.
