A NEWLY formed branch of Cats Protection in Wirral has already helped abandoned kittens and a cat who was left without a home after the death of its owner.

The branch has made a purr-fect start since it began taking cats into care in January this year and is now looking for more volunteers so it can do even more for the area’s felines in need.

Three 12-week-old kittens Albert, Ethel and Figaro that were found dumped in Royden Park, Irby and Arrowe Park, Woodchurch were taken into the care of Cats Protection after being taken to Acorn Veterinary Surgery.

Branch coordinator Steve Riches said: “All three had significant medical problems, but they have pulled through, with Ethel and Figaro rehomed and Albert reserved for rehoming after spending five months in veterinary care with a perpetual ringworm problem.

“The medical costs for all three kittens’ recovery were paid by an anonymous donor, for which we are extremely thankful.

“These heart-warming outcomes make volunteering with Cats Protection so very rewarding.

“Our branch is run by volunteers and to keep supporting the many cats that come into our care, we need more people to join us.

"We have a variety of volunteer roles available from fundraising to transporting, but what we urgently need right now are fosterers for the cats and kittens so desperately needing our help.

"We provide everything required to look after a cat while it awaits a new home, so all it needs is your time.

"If anyone would like to find out more please do get in touch today.”

The volunteers at the centre have now helped almost 100 cats.

As well as finding new homes for unwanted and abandoned cats the charity also offers cat care advice to the public and can help towards the cost of neutering.

Cats Protection’s regional fundraising manager Rachel Dring said: “The volunteers at North Wirral are so committed and passionate about cats and have already helped so many cats in the area.

"If anyone is interested in joining their friendly branch, please do get in touch today.”

The branch currently covers Birkenhead, Wallasey, Moreton, West Kirby, Hoylake, New Brighton, Greasby and Frankby.
