EVERY year many people across our region choose to sign up to be a reservist in the UK’s armed forces.
One of the largest employers in the North West, United Utilities have signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant to offer employees the chance to spend time in the military and also give Armed Forces personnel the opportunity to take up employment with a company after leaving the army.
Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces that make up around one-sixth of the UK’s Armed Forces personnel and they are integral to protecting the nation’s security at home and overseas and in particular providing specialist knowledge in areas such as medicine.
Nation Reserves Day on June 21 recognised the valuable contribution that reservists make to the armed forces who are currently supporting operations worldwide in places such as Afghanistan, Northern Iraq, Cyprus and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The annual day of celebration was created to recognise the contributions made by the reservists to make our Armed Forces, which often goes unrecognised.
