POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in Woodchurch.

Emergency services were called at around 9.50am yesterday (Sunday) following reports that a man had been assaulted close to the Woodchurch Leisure Centre on Carr Bridge Road.

The 25-year-old victim suffered three stab wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment where he is believed to be stable.

A full investigation has now been launched.

Detective inspector Paul Parry said: “Knives are dangerous and there is no place for them on the streets of Merseyside.

“Using a knife can have devastating consequences not only for the victim and their family but also the offender.

“I would urge people to educate themselves, speak to their children and family members and prevent the repeat of any tragedies.

"We will act on all information reported to us around knife crime, and appeal to anyone with information about knife crime in Wirral or this incident in particular to call us.”

Anyone with information should call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2260 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
