THE organisers of Wirral's Globe-backed Race For Life are urging more people to sign up with just a week to go until this year's fundraising run.

So far, 1,332 women have signed up for the event in Birkenhead Park next Sunday, June 25, which raises much-needed funds for Cancer Research UK.

Entry closes at midnight on Friday, June 23, and those behind the event are encouraging mums, daughters, grannies, sisters, friends and workmates to join those already registered.

It is followed a week later (Sunday, July 2) by Race for Life's Pretty Muddy event, also at Birkenhead Park, with 1,228 signed up.

Pretty Muddy is a women-only, non-competitive 5k obstacle course - with added mud, thrills and spills.

From scramble nets and climbing frames to inflatable slides and hurdles, participants will face a range of muddy obstacles to crawl under, clamber over and charge through - all to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK's life-saving research.

Sarah Hunter, event manager, said: "We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life events in Wirral.

"But we still have places left so we are urging women to sign up right now and show their support.

"Race for Life events are non-competitive and participants can choose to walk, jog or run around the course.

"Whether they're planning a 5k amble with friends, a 10k sprint or a mud-splattered race around Pretty Muddy, every step participants take will help to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

"Taking part in Race for Life is a hugely moving experience thanks to our brave army of inspirational participants.

"Many will be remembering loved ones lost to cancer or celebrating the lives of people dear to them who have survived.

"We're calling on ladies in Wirral of all ages, shapes and sizes to sign up right now and be part of a collective force of women who are united in their aim to beat cancer."
