COMFORT blankets for children visiting the emergency department at Arrowe Park Hospital have been specially made by a knitting group

Created by Chix With Stix, the colourful crocheted blankets have a range of designs such as teddy bears on them.

Blankets are given to paediatric patients visiting the resuscitation area of the department as a way of calming them down in what can be a daunting and upsetting time for some.

Helen Morris, matron in charge of the emergency department, said: "The blankets that the group have knitted are fantastic.

"The resuscitation area of our emergency department can be a scary experience for some young children, but these blankets are there to give a little extra comfort.

"This is their very own hospital blanket that they get to take home with them.

"I would like to thank the knitting group for all their efforts and the blankets will make a big difference to the children, helping them during a very difficult time".

Chix With Stix meet every Tuesday in Prescot and the blankets were funded through the Prescot Townscape Heritage Initiative.
