A TAXI driver's jaw was broken after he was attacked in broad daylight while working in Birkenhead.

At around 8am on Saturday May 14, he was driving along Claughton Road by the mini roundabout opposite the old Blockbuster store.

Two men walked in front of the taxi and tried to flag it down. After an altercation, the cab driver was punched in the face resulting in a broken jaw.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and detectives have made extensive CCTV enquiries to identify those involved.

Footage from the taxi's dashcam shows one of the men wanted by police in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector Allison Woods said: "This was a cowardly attack in broad daylight and has resulted in serious injury and a great deal of distress for the victim, a man going about his daily business.

"Any piece of information, however small, may be vital for our investigation. We are determined to bring those responsible to justice."

The men pictured, or anyone who recognises them, are urged to call detectives on 0151 777 2265.
