The suspects are believed to have been on bikes and rode down Chapel Hill after the incident.

CCTV and forensic enquiries have been carried out and detectives are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Allison Woods said: “This was an appalling targeted attack by a group of suspects in broad daylight, and I am urging anyone with information to come forward.

"If you want to provide information anonymously, Crimestoppers is completely independent of the police and you can report crime to them on the phone or online.

“Thankfully, the victim was not more seriously injured but I am sure members of the community would agree that the people responsible need removing from our streets.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anything suspicious is urged to call 101 or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
