MACMILLAN Cancer Support has launched a campaign to recruit more volunteers to help support people living with the disease in Wirral.
The charity says volunteers really make their time matter, so no one faces cancer alone.
Among them is Anne Williams from Wallasey, who has volunteered since December, juggling volunteering commitments with a full-time job as a senior contract manager.
She said: "I really love it volunteering as a practical and emotional support volunteer with Macmillan, I get so much out of it without putting a lot into it".
Anne has supported Rita, 85 from Greasby, since she began diagnostic tests for pancreatic cancer and helps Rita by having a cup of tea and a chat every week and by taking Rita for a scan at the hospital.
Rita said: "In times of need friends can disappear as they're busy with their own lives but Anne is just so supportive and she helps me in practical ways as well as chatting about things I'm interested in, like films and snooker".
