AN investigation is underway following a burglary at a shop in Heswall.

Merseyside Police were called to T & P Stores Ltd on Village Road at around 12.25am on Wednesday following reports that two masked men had forced entry to an ATM inside the store and stole cash.

They are believed to have left the scene in a silver car.

CCTV from the surrounding area has been explored and detectives have issued an image to identify a man they want to speak to.

Detective inspector Mike Dalton said: "This is a small, independent local business and the owner is understandably devastated that it has been targeted.

"It's shameful that there are people who think it is acceptable to destroy other people's hard work and enterprise for their own gain and we are determined to bring those responsible before the courts.

"I would appeal to anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV still to contact police, as he may be able to assist our enquiries.

“We would also appeal to people who may have seen anything suspicious around Village Road in the early hours of Wednesday to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information can call Merseyside Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
