UNION bosses have suspended a third day of strike action as a mark of respect for people and who have been affected by the Manchester explosion.

Drivers and guards were scheduled to walk out for 24 hours on Tuesday, May 30 in a dispute over guard positions on a new fleet of driver-only trains due to replace Merseyrail’s current rolling stock in 2020.

Rail, Maritime and Transport Union general secretary Mick Cash said: “In light of the horrific bombing in Manchester last night, and the heightened safety and security alerts on our transport services, RMT’s executive has taken the decision to suspend the 24 hours of strike action scheduled for Tuesday May 30 on Merseyrail, Northern Rail and Southern Rail.

“Our thoughts and solidarity at this time are with the people of Manchester.”

The blast killed 22 people and injured 59 at the end of an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena.

It has been confirmed that Saffie Rose Roussos, 8, and Georgina Callander, 18, both died as a result of the explosion.

Anyone who attended the concert last night and recorded footage or took photographs that could help the police should upload them to Ukpoliceimageappeal.co.uk or Ukpoliceimageappeal.com.
