DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a Birkenhead man have launched a new appeal for witnesses.

Darren Poole was found dead at his home in Dingle Road on August 14, 2015.

A post-mortem established the 33-year-old had died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Police believe he was assaulted inside the house.

A 42-year-old man from Tranmere arrested on suspicion of the murder of Darren Poole in March 2017 was released pending a disposal decision.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Denn said today: "Someone out there knows exactly who is responsible for his murder and we would like to take this opportunity to appeal for anyone who knows any information about the circumstances surrounding his death to contact police or Crimestoppers.

"We are particularly keen to talk to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time of the assault to come forward and help us with our enquiries.

"We firmly believe that the answers lie within the local community and someone knows who is responsible for this terrible act, which has left a family devastated.

"It's not too late to come forward.

"I would even appeal to those involved in the attack to search their consciences.

"Allegiances can change over time and you may even regret your involvement in the attack on the night.

"Darren died just three days after his 33rd birthday and his family desperately want answers to the question of why his life was so cruelly and prematurely cut short."

Enquiries into the death of Darren Poole are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
