FRIENDS of New Ferry man Lewis Jones are raising cash to help his family with future medical expenses.

21-year-old Lewis was seriously injured during the explosion on Saturday March 25.

On a Justgiving page created by friend Jack Jessop he is hoping to raise £5,000 for Lewis’ family.

Jack said: “Unfortunately our friend, brother and son Lewis Jones was caught in the explosion and is in a critical condition fighting for his life each day.

“Not only are his mum and brother worrying about him and how he is fighting each day, they also currently do not have a stable house to go back to.

“This is why we are here to plead for any donations you can possibly spare as we wish to assist the family in not only finding a new stable home for them to live in, but to also cater to the medical expenses that are going to come with looking after Lewis when and if he comes back around.”

The New Ferry Town Team led by Councillor Warren Ward have donated £500 to the campaign.

Lewis is being treated at the Walton Centre where he remains in a critical condition.

In a statement issued by Lewis’ mum Maureen and brother Jonathan last month they said: “Lewis left the house just a couple of minutes before the explosion to go and see some friends.

"After the explosion we rang his phone because we had no idea which direction he had gone in when he left home, but it was switched off.

"It was only when we went outside that we found out what had happened.

“As a mum you always worry about your children going out, especially when they go out drinking. But you don’t expect something like this to happen just a few minutes from home.

“Lewis is a lovely lad. He is a real joker and has an amazing sense of humour and is very kind and sensitive. He always wants to have fun.

“He has a large circle of friends, many of whom he has known since he was in primary school, and they have been amazing.

"They started coming into the hospital on Saturday night and have been here ever since and we can’t thank them enough for their support.

“Lewis is a huge Everton fan and they have all have had football shirts printed with his name on and the hashtag #Bluefor Lew on it – even those who are Liverpool fans - and they have told us that they want to raise money for Lewis for his ongoing care.

"We fully support everything they want to do and we are really thankful for their continued support.

“The staff at The Walton centre have also been fantastic and we are so grateful for their kindness and help.”
