SAILING clubs across Wirral are joining a national campaign to encourage more people to get involved with the popular water sport.

The national 'Push The Boat Out' campaign from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) wants to get people sailing for free or at a low cost over a period of nine days from Saturday 13 to Sunday May 21.

The organisation say sailing is a great way to get the whole family out in the open air and to try a sport that offers many rewards including Olympic qualification.

Everyone who signs up will get the chance to go out on the water with experienced sailors.

Adam McGovern, North West regional development officer for the RYA said: "Push The Boat Out is a great introduction to all aspects of boating.

"After having a go at the taster sessions, you can continue to learn to sail with instructors delivering the acclaimed RYA method of progressive training".

In Wirral sessions are being held at:

  • West Kirby Sailing Club on Sunday 21 May from 10am to 3pm to visitors of all ages.
  • Wallasey Yacht Club at the New Brighton Marine Lake from 6pm to 9pm on Monday 15 May.
  • Hoylake Sailing Club at Marine Lake, West Kirby from 5pm to 8pm on Friday 19 May.

All venues advise visitors to wear clothes and footwear that they don't mind getting wet.

They also advise people to bring a towel and a spare change of clothes.
