A DETERMINED nine-year-old girl is set to ride 20 miles for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in memory of her little sister.

Jessica Weaver from Little Neston wants to raise £500 during her challenge on May 28 - the anniversary of the death of her younger sister Georgie.

Georgie was born with a rare condition called tracheal agenesis which means she was born without a windpipe.

Two years ago Jessica was made a young ambassador for Alder Hey Children’s charity due to all the fundraising she has completed in her sister’s memory.

Jessica’s mum Emma said: “Our beautiful baby girl Georgie Lou was born six weeks early in May 2014. She struggled to breathe initially and the doctors were at a loss as to why.

“She was transferred to Alder Hey where they found she had the condition.

“The fact that she breathed at all after she was born was a miracle. She was a little fighter though and we cherished every moment of the five days together we were blessed with.

“We cannot thank the staff at Alder Hey enough for the care, devotion and support.

“Jess wanted to raise money for the Alder Hey charity in Georgie’s name to help other families so she began the trike ride.

“Last summer Jess worked hard to ride a bike rather than a trike, she’s now on two wheels.

“This is a massive achievement for her.”

Wirral Globe:

Jess will be leading her third ride from Nets cafe in Little Neston towards Chester (Northgate ponds) and back.

Emma added: “She wants to go further than she has before so that people continue to support her, that’s where the idea of completing 20 miles came from.

“There’ll be a few members of the family and friends who will be joining her “She’s been training very hard each weekend and we timed her and she’s completing around 12 miles per hour.

“We’ve told her she has to pace herself otherwise she will get tired very quickly.”

“Two years ago Jess rode 16 miles along the Wirral Way from Hadlow station to Thurstaston and back last year and 11 miles the year before.

“We are having a celebration at the end to enable all Jessica's supporters to meet her new baby sister, Iris.”
