A BIRKENHEAD town centre bar has had its licence revoked following a review hearing at Wallasey Town Hall.

Traffic Bar on Argyle Street surrendered its licence prior to the hearing due to evidence provided by police and Wirral Council.

Over a six-month period the bar was found to have committed numerous licensing breaches such as underage drinking and violence.

Wirral chief inspector Duncan Swan said: “We are very pleased with the outcome of this case which emphasises our commitment to ensuring the public safety of people who live, work and visit Birkenhead.

"Serious concerns were raised in relation to Traffic Bar and it was paramount that swift action was taken to remove the licence."

“Merseyside Police and our partners are committed to ensuring that Birkenhead is a safe environment for everyone to visit, day and night.

“I would urge anyone with information about any issues affecting the night-time economy to contact us and I assure you that we will continue to take positive action to improve the lives of law-abiding members of our community.”

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
