MARK Palios has hailed the positive influence Tranmere’s supporters are having on their team’s performances and is challenging more parents to bring their kids to Prenton Park.

The club’s popular chairman spoke exclusively to the Globe ahead of Rovers’ amazing 9-0 victory over Solihull Moors on Saturday, which kept the Birkenhead club neck and neck with Lincoln in the race for automatic promotion.

Tranmere’s run of six successive wins coincides with a significant upturn in atmosphere from the stands, which Palios was more than happy to acknowledge.

He said: “I always say part of the job here for us was to take the potential out of the assets that the club have.

“One of the assets is the fans. I can’t really get the potential out of them. I deputed that to the supporter’s club and to the trust to try and improve the atmosphere here.

“We’ve been working on it for some time. It came together particularly at the Dover game. It even forced me to ‘tweet.’ I did say that the strong performance and the crowd performance was not a coincidence, it was a consequence.

“I think what’s great is that the fans have seen that they’re not just here as fans but actually they can influence what happens on the pitch.

“They can influence the run-in. It’s been great to see that and the atmosphere’s been fantastic.

"It helps in so many different ways. We bring business people to the club. They may not have been to Tranmere before but they have a view as to what coming to entertain their guests at a Tranmere match means.

“Then they experience that and I know a lot of them went away saying ‘wow.’ That’s down the fans.

“You get that great feeling of togetherness – the fans, the club and the team and the manager, all coming together.”

The Rovers chairman made it clear that the club’s key goal is promotion back to the Football League and he has been happy with the progress made under manager Micky Mellon, without heaping extra pressure on him.

He said: “From a club perspective, what we tried to do was stay in touch at Christmas and be right down everybody’s necks with a strong squad, which was to see us through the run-in.

“We then got hit with massive injuries to Jack Dunn and Ben Tollitt, who gave us the wide options to open teams up.

“They were starting to do that, then we lost both of them in the space of 20 minutes in one game. We lost four good players in eight days, with (Lois) Maynard going out and then Jake (Kirby) breaking his leg.

“The strength of the squad was sufficient to see us through that but we added two additions – two more wingers – so we can vary the play when we need to in a game.

"But as it’s happened everybody’s coming back to fitness. There’s competition for places. To have that at this time of the season is fantastic.

“We’re well placed in that regard and we’re just literally taking every game as it comes.

"A cliché’s a cliché because it’s very often true. That’s what we have to do to keep the pressure on Lincoln.

“I haven’t put any expectation on Micky because there’s no need to. Any manager coming here knows that promotion is our goal, so I don’t even have to speak about it.

“But it’s not an ultimatum. If we don’t get promotion Micky will be here next year. That’s not a pressure I need to put on him.” With Tranmere in action on Tuesday night at home to Forest Green Rovers, they have two more home games remaining and Palios is urging parents to give their children a unique experience they won’t forget.

He added: “There are two messages. One is – come on, let’s make this a league club again, because it’s great for Wirral to have its own league club.

“But the second one is, if you’re a parent – I challenge you. If you don’t take your kids to see a live game of football, what do they miss out on in their life?

“The atmosphere at Tranmere at the moment is absolutely electric. When they start singing ‘We’re on our way’ the whole ground comes together.

"It’s a fantastic experience for kids.

“You can take them to the zoo or you can bring them here. I know which is the best experience.”
