A WIRRAL dad says he owes his life to his girlfriend after she applied emergency first-aid when he had been stabbed during a horrific robbery.

Chris Taylor was slashed repeatedly with a craft knife during the incident in Warwick Road, Upton, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Mr Taylor, 29, a self-employed groundworker, was slashed in the head, back and arm and needing nearly 50 stitches and staples.

He made his way back to his home in Overchurch were girlfriend Jayde applied first-aid until paramedics arrived.

He was then taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He told the Globe: "I was walking along the road and a gang of youths trying to take a quad bike.

"One of them asked me what I was looking at.

"I carried on walking and they set on me, stabbing me in the back, arm and head.

"It was terrifying and I was left for dead".

He continued: "Eventually I made my way home.

"I only live about five minutes away in Overchurch but because I was badly injured and disorientated it seemed like home was miles away.

"It was my girlfriend Jayde who saved my life when I got home.

"She called the emergency services and I want to tell her how much I love her. Without her I wouldn't be here now.

"I'm also self-employed, so will probably not be able to work for a while".

His attackers are thought to have been on quad bikes or motorbikes near The Overchurch pub shortly before the incident.

A police spokesman said: "A 16-year-old arrested on suspicion of wounding and unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle has been released pending further inquiries."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Editor's note: We have been asked to point out that neither staff or customers of The Overchurch pub were involved in the incident.
