OWNERS of a charity shop that was destroyed by the explosion in New Ferry are concerned about a lack of official information coming from the emergency team co-ordinating clean-up operations.

The “Phab” shop on Bebington Road was flattened by the massive blast on Saturday night.

Husband and wife team Greg and Lorna say they have had no official consultation or advice so far.

Lorna said: “So far we have very little information about what is now going on at the site of the explosion.

“We know there is a meeting with the ‘gold commission’ emergency operation today and we have spoken to the office of Alison McGovern as we heard of rumours that pop-up shops may open so businesses can keep running..

“We’ve now lost everything including stock and tills - and we’ve been left hanging.

“This has affected so many people and it is a massive worry to us and other business owners.

“We are so worried about the people who have been injured. It’s hard trying to reassure our members when we don’t have any information ourselves about what happens next after the blast.

“My husband and I first found out around midnight - we had taken my mum to the theatre over in Liverpool, so we had no idea what has happened.

“Obviously everyone is talking about the dance studio but there are a lot more businesses in that block that have been destroyed, damaged and affected by this.

“I tried to go down to the shop yesterday but there was no access and no more information.

“We just haven’t got a clue what’s going on.”
