WALLASEY-based author Stephen Done will give an insight into his best-selling detective novels next week as part of a Wirral literary festival.

He is the latest writer to support the novel celebration of words being hosted by Literally Bookshop in New Brighton.

Stephen, author of eight books featuring the stories of Chief Inspector Vignoles - and his much-loved colleagues from the British Railways Detective Department - will look back on his career in Stephen Done - Literally Speaking at the venue in Atherton Street next Friday, March 30, at 6.30pm.

A railway enthusiast himself, Stephen enjoys sharing his writing experience with book-lovers of all ages.

He said: "My books are set between 1939 and 1953 in an age when there were no mobile phones and i-pads.

"I like to think they are good crime stories set against the atmoshpere and romance of Britain's steam railways".

Cathy Roberts, manager of Literally Bookshop, said: "We are hosting an on-going Literary Speaking Festival throughout the Spring and we are thrilled that Stephen is taking part.

"He is an insirational storyteller and one of his books - New Brighton Rock - is one of our all time best-sellers.

"The great aspect of his talks are that you don't have to be a big railway fan to get something out of them.

"He will be reading from his latest work, The Mountsorrel mystery and other stories.

"It will be an evening that will appeal to all budding writers and book clubs".

Following on from the recent success of Ricky Tomlinson at the Atherton Street based shop, Literally Books is hosting a Shakspeare anniversary event with Bill's Birthday Bash on April 23 - courtesy of Wirral Globe Arts Ambassadors Hand-in-Hand Theatre Company.

World-famous horror writer Ramsey Campbell, will also be giving a talk in the festival.

Tickets for Stephen Done - Literally Speaking next Friday, March 30, which starts at 6.30pm, are £5, including refreshments.

They are available from 07914737887.
