MORE than £300,000 is to be invested in helping victims of domestic violence in Wirral and Merseyside.
The funding from the Department for Communities and Local Government came after a joint bid from from Wirral, Knowsley, Liverpool, and Sefton councils.
It will help support victims by providing them with accommodation "suitable to an individual's needs" across the four local authority areas.
It also means more will be able to remain in their own homes safely through the installation of locks and external lighting.
And improved therapeutic support will be on hand for children who have witnessed violence in the home.
Cllr George Davies, Wirral cabinet member for housing and community safety, said “Domestic abuse is a devastating crime that all too often remains hidden.
"In recognition of this Wirral Council has pledged to treat domestic abuse with zero tolerance - which also means ensuring victims are able to access appropriate housing where they can feel safe and supported during times of crisis.
"This funding will enable Wirral alongside our neighbouring councils to adopt a housing-led approach to addressing requirements of people fleeing domestic abuse and enabling victims to rebuild their lives.”
