TWO men have been charged with fraud after an elderly woman was defrauded in Claughton.

Christopher Smith, 48, of no fixed abode, was charged with fraud by false representation twice and making a false statement to an insurance company.

Andrew Lovell, 41, of Coppice Green in Elton has also been charged with fraud by false representation twice.

The charges come following an incident on January 5 when a 75-year-old woman was defrauded of £3,500 in Claughton.

An 84-year-old woman was also defrauded of £3,200 in Formby, Sefton.

Both appeared at Wirral Magistrates this morning and have been remanded to appear on April 12.
