A 16-year-old boy has died after suffering serious injuries following an incident with a group of teenagers.
Emergency services responded to reports of an altercation on Kingsley Road, Ellesmere Port at around 4am yesterday.
The teenager was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital by paramedics where he died on Thursday night.
His next of kin have been informed.
A post mortem examination was carried out today on the youngster whose death is not being treated as suspicious but is unexplained.
The cause of death has been withheld pending toxicology reports.
Five teenagers were arrested in connection with the incident but have since been bailed.
Ellesmere Port inspector Ian Stead said: “We are aware of rumours circulating of a boy being stabbed. I’d like to reassure the community that this is not the case.
“This is an isolated incident involving teenagers who were known to each other.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the boy.”
