A man was injured during an attempted armed robbery at a Chinese restaurant on Grange Road West, Birkenhead.

Officers were called to the Sun Ying at 10.25pm on Sunday after reports a masked man had entered with a knife and was demanding money.

A member of staff suffered a cut to his hand as the man fled empty handed.

The premises are currently cordoned off.

Detective Inspector Mike Dalton said: “This was a shocking incident for the victims involved and the man showed no thought for them. We are making every effort to find him and arrest him.

“I am sure that this man was seen either before or after this crime took place. I would like to speak to anyone that saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident.

"Any information no matter how small could be crucial to our investigation.”

The suspect is in his late 30s to early 40s, 5ft 8ins, and was wearing a hooded grey track suit, a black balaclava and black bobble hat.
