A NEW support group is being launched in Wirral to help people who are affected by blood cancer.

Launched by charity the Lymphoma Association it is the first of its kind in the borough.

Founded by patients in 1986 the UK charity is dedicated to providing specialist medical information and support to families, friends and carers affected by lymphatic cancer.

The first meeting will be on March 16 and then every third Thursday from 7pm at the community space in Tesco, Bidston Moss, Birkenhead.

Lymphoma Association manager Karen Bonell said: “We will have invited speakers and information about lymphoma and other blood cancers available.

"Anyone affected by lymphoma, leukaemia, myeloma or any other blood cancer is welcome to attend."

It is thought more than 14,000 new cases of lymphoma are identified in the UK making it the fifth most common cancer diagnosis - it is also the most frequently diagnosed cancer in teenagers and young adults.
