NEWTON had double cause for celebration after they overcame Cammell Laird 1907 Reserves 5-1 in midweek to bolster their claims for the Carlsberg West Cheshire League's Division One title..

On Saturday they reached the Wirral & District FA's Senior Cup final at the expense of Division Two conterparts, Neston Nomads. 

Inspired by a Ged King double, coupled with further efforts from Jack McDowell, Jamie Murray and Jamie Hurworth, Newton came back strongly in the second period at Lairds who had gone in front via Ryan Beigan while in Saturday's semi, King bagged a hat trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Kevin Townson (2), Ryan Hunt and Lee Kissock as Nomads capitulated 7-1.

A smart double from goal ace Alex Woodcock, anchored South Liverpool to a 2-0 victory over Lower Breck in the Liverpool County FA Challenge Cup quarter finals but despite a goal from Dylan Fitzsimmons, Maghull had to return their cup final suits after they went down 2-1 to MSB Woolton.

Stewart Hardman struck twice as Ashville Reserves secured their passage to the Wirral & District FA's Amateur Cup final after they eclipsed Capenhurst Villa Res 2-0.

But their was no joy for Redgate Rovers Res, who lost out 4-1 after extra time to New Street Res following a keenly-contested Liverpool & District FA Junior Cup quarter final.

Jack Holden and Lewis Francis bagged the goals as Booitle Res accounted for Kirkby Town Railway and progressed to the last four of the Haworth & Gallagher Bowl.

In Division One, there was no stopping Redgate Rovers' Craig Blackwell, who plundered five goals in his side's 6-2 eclipse of Capenhurst Villa who have now lost four on the trot.

Current leaders, Mossley Hill Ath., scored through Paul Pearson, but forfeited two points after relegation threatened West Kirby had James Stevenson in reply and Richmond Raith Rovers saw their charge up the table checked, after hosts Upton AA emerged 4-1 victors, courtesy of efforts from Lee Guiardo, Chris Melia, Luke Finch and an own goal.

Heswall were elevated to seventh place in the table when Andy Kingan, Levi Wooley and Graham Williams found the net in a 3-1 success at Vauxhall Motors.

The Motormen's reserve side also came to grief in their Division Two clash with West Kirby Res, who edged a 3-2 decision, with Jordan Foster (2) and Kieran Donoghgue on target while efforts from Jack Walker (2), Jimmy Eves, Stuart Cornfoot, Colin Cunliffe and Sam Sullivan were enough, as Hale savoured a 6-2 win against Prescot Cables Res, who had Zac Owen and Adam Edwards in reply.

Rainhill Town Res stayed two points in credit at the top of Division Three, and were indebted to three goal Henry Newnes who called the shots in Saturday's 3-0 result over Chester Nomads Res.

Nearest rivals, Ellesmere Port Town stayed in contention, after they beat Marshalls Res 4-0 with golas from Callum Hughes, Callum Freeman, Greg Mills and Josh Lyth.

Helsby Res netted through Chris Kay and George Williams but were second best against a rejuvenated Mersey Royal, who posted a 6-2 win.

Rob White (2), Liam Siddorn (2), Ryan Youds and Leon Clarke were the marksmen.

Saturday's Youth Division action saw Litherland Remyca Youth claim tiop spot after they romped home 5-0 against Ellesmere Port Town Youth, Lewis Murphy (2), Danny Cull, Callum Jones and Connor Smith applying the finishing touches.

William Burke hit Chester Nomads Youth's consolation in their 4-1 defeat to Maghull Youth who sealed the issue, thanks to replies from Ben Riley, Dan Grundy, Charlie Cooney and Liam Fitzgerald.
