A WOMAN from Wallasey is close to finishing a 12-month marathon challenge for charity.
Over the past nine months Jan McArd, managing director of Jan McDermott and Co Chartered Accountants has been competing in marathons for the Alzheimer's Society in memory of her mum and local charity the Welcome Centre.
Jan started by competing in 5K races such as the Birkenhead ParkRun and the Seaside Run at Leasowe and has so far raised nearly £500.
A member of Wallasey Athletics Club Jan will finish her challenge in April and by then she will have run more than 350 miles.
She said: “I’ve always been busy in the world of accountancy and wanted to find something outside of this, that I could really get my teeth into.
"I decided to run a series of races for the Alzheimer’s Society as my Mum suffered from the condition and any work that can be done to alleviate other families’ pain is money well spent.
"I also wanted to support a local charity, and chose the Welcome Centre in Birkenhead who are making a significant difference to people in our local community.”
