TRIBUTES are being paid to a talented young footballer who died after he was hit by a car in Rock Ferry on Tuesday.

Connor Smith, 16, was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital after the accident on Old Chester Road where he was pronounced dead.

A Justgiving page set up by family friend, Bernie Campbell has raised more than £6,600 beating the original target of £3,000.

Paying tribute to the Rock Ferry teenager on the page, Bernie wrote: "We lost a young man just 16 years-old so full of life and enthusiasm.

"Tragically taken from his family and friends whilst on his way to work. A career and future cut short that was full of hope and promise.

"Connor was a talented footballer who played for Victoria Colts F.C. from the age of five years.

"He will be so missed by his team mates and all who knew him.

"His family and friends are heartbroken with their sudden loss and will never forget his lovable and kind-hearted nature.

"Such a warm happy boy who was loved by everyone.

"In their grief his friends are united in raising funds for a fitting memorial to remember and celebrate his life."

In one day the page raised more than £3,000.

The 49-year-old male driver of the car, a Vauxhall Astra, remains in hospital where his condition is described as serious but not life threatening.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7.30am on Tuesday after the car collided with Connor and then hit a wall.
